Cottages FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: May I see inside a Cottage?
A: When the Cottages are occupied, we don’t do tours of them. However, if one is between occupants, we are happy to give a tour. Also, you can see a 3-D presentation of a two-bedroom Cottage (which is very similar to a one-bedroom Cottage, just minus a second bedroom and the half bathroom), here: https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=84EqJmkQszR

Q: When were the cottages built?
A: They were completed in August of 2008.

Q: What makes the cottages special?
A: Each cottage has skylights, cathedral ceilings, 2 garden patios, and zone heating.

Q: Can a cottage be occupied by two people?
A: Sure

Q: Can residents have pets?
A: Yes, with a refundable pet deposit of $500. Pets are subject to approval.

Q: What is the Gathering Place?
A: The Gathering Place is the “living room” for the residents of The Hamlet.  It includes a great room, an inglenook with gas fireplace, a warming kitchen and exercise room.  Residents use the Gathering Place for get-togethers, meetings, parties and social events.

Q: Who is eligible for the moderate rate?
A: We follow San Juan County guidelines to determine eligibility.  Currently, individuals with an income that is less than $61,465 qualify for the reduced rate. Couples’ joint income cannot exceed $70,205. Those interested in applying for the moderate rate provide annual tax returns. As part of their application, applicants provide an affidavit certifying they do not own additional property.

Q: What are the upfront costs?
A: We require first and last month’s rent, plus half of one month’s rent as a refundable damage deposit. There is a $500 pet deposit fee as well, if applicable.

Q: Are internet costs included in the rent?  Satellite TV?
A: Each cottage is wired for high speed internet and satellite TV.  However, rent does not cover hook up fees or monthly charges.

Q: I know that I pay my own electricity each month. What does this typically cost?
A:
For a one-bedroom, electricity costs typically range from approximately $65/month in the summer, to $120/month in the winter. For a two-bedroom, they typically range from $80/month in the summer, to $170/month in the winter.
